Jasper Whitlock Hale

Full Name: Jasper Whitlock Hale
Age: (If a Vampire, real and how old they look.) Vampire Age: Around 140 or so, depending on when this takes place. Real Age:20
Played-By: Jackson Rathbone
AIM: (Optional.) My personal AIM is RineRam123, but I can create one for Jasper if needed
Date of Birth: It's not specified in the book, but I'm going with August 5, 1843
History:
As a Human
Originally hailing from Houston, Texas, Jasper Whitlock grew up on a ranch with his father, John, and his younger sister by two years, Marguerite. His mother, Sarah, died giving birth to his sister, something his father never could forgive her for, despite it not being her fault. Because of this, Jasper assumed the father role for his sister, protecting her from anything that threatened her, including their father. Jasper was the only one who could calm his angry father's temper when he came home from the saloon. His father had called it charisma, but only later would Jasper figure out what this ability truly was.

From the age of 12 until he was 17, Jasper had worked on the ranch of the family next door, earning a small wage; enough to help keep his family comfortable. There were many girls in the Houston area who would have loved to be in Jasper Whitlock's company, but only one caught his eye, a young woman named Emma Reeves. She was the daughter of Jasper's boss on the ranch. His age, small, beautiful, and strong, she was the only other person who could match him on a horse or with a rope. Everyone expected a wedding from them at any moment. They courted for quite some time, until, one day, she didn't meet him out in the fields. When he went to investigate, he found out that she had passed away in the night from the consumption. He was heartbroken for a long time, his family sharing in his pain. Jasper radiated sadness wherever he went. When he was 17 the Confederate Army was recruiting for soldiers, and Jasper jumped at the chance to get away from his memories of Emma. The relationship between his father and his sister was decent enough that he felt little guilt about leaving her with him. He promised he'd come back to her as soon as he could. Little did he know that he wouldn't be seeing her for over ten years.

Though he was only 17, his build allowed him to pass for someone a few years older. To better his chances of getting accepted, he lied about his age. Once in the army, he quickly rose up the ranks, earning the title of Major in a few short months. As usual, he made many friends in the army. He was not focused on the Confederacy's cause, but more as an escape. He would never have left Houston otherwise.

Then, the fateful day came when he met Maria, Nettie, and Lucy.

As a vampire
It hurt. A lot. When Maria approached him, he thought it was some form of seduction, something he was used to turning down in his travels in the army. He couldn't resist her as she drew closer. He was sure he was dead once her teeth easily broke his skin and she began to drink.

Then came the pain. The unbearable, unstoppable pain of the change. For three days, he writhed and screamed against the fire in his veins.

It hadn't taken long for him to be 'trained'. She taught him how to hunt, how to fight, and how to control himself long enough to get the job done. Soon enough, just as in the army, he had rose through the ranks of the other newborns to become Maria's second in command. He created and subsequently disposed of the newborns in her army, keeping only the choice few that wouldn't turn on them. His relationship with Maria was not that of any sexual nature, although she had shown preference towards him from time to time. She depended on him to keep her newborn army in line.

Only once did he visit his family after his change. When Maria was planning on overtaking the Houston area, he found his sister, aged 27 at that point, and warned her in the middle of the night to go north, to get out as fast as she could. It took everything in his power that night not to kill her. He got out just before she realized she wasn't dreaming, and that her unaged brother had come back to her. He protected the house from afar, keeping the newborns away from his sister until he was sure she had fled.

A few decades had passed, and a few hundred newborns were created and destroyed, a choice few kept for certain tasks. After he learned from Peter, an escaped member of their coven/army, that there was life outside of this constant war, the anger, the death and destruction that Maria thrived on, he knew he had to make an escape. He left her without looking back, and traveled the north, living a nomadic, depressing existence.

Everyone knows the story of how Jasper and Alice met, but only the two of them know what they really mean to each other. Jasper fell in love with the emotions surrounding her, with her uninhibited joy towards life. There was nothing that could bring her down. And, for a vampire who could feel the emotions of everyone around him, this was a relief. All the years of hatred being drummed into his head had taken their toll. It wasn't just the emotions that Alice emitted that made Jasper fall in love with her, it was her total understanding of his situation. She never scolded him for slipping, accidentally killing a human from time to time, although guilt and embarrassment washed over him the moment it was finished. She could usually see when he had decided to find a human to feed on, but if the decision came too late, Alice wouldn't always be able to stop him. When he came home, eyes red from the blood, she wouldn't be angry or disappointed. He was usually met with a gentle "It'll be easier tomorrow..."

He knew he couldn't surprise her when he knew he wanted to propose. When the decision popped into his head, he could sense her excitement, and he knew that was a yes. Clearly, it was the easiest proposal in the history of marriage proposals. It had been a century since he'd even entertained the thought of marriage. And now he didn't want to think of anything else than Alice being his for the rest of eternity.

When they had finally arrived at the Cullen's residence in 1950, Jasper was very guarded, finding little to talk about with his adoptive brothers and sister. He was wary of their presence, it had been so long since he belonged to a coven, and that wasn't a very peaceful one in his time. He found it difficult to accept the fact that he wasn't about to rise through the ranks of their family any time soon. As far as they saw, he was the weakest one, the one most likely to slip and lure a human away from their day to day life. Jasper was very reluctant to accept Carlisle's way of life. But he would follow Alice into the firey pits of Hell if that's where she wanted to go. He was her companion, her lover, her husband. If she wanted to stay with the Cullens, then he would stay there, and try to follow their rules as strictly as possible.

Family:
Alice-Spouse
Carlise-Adopted father
Esme-Adopted mother
Emmett-Adopted brother
Rosalie, Bella-Adopted sisters

Personality: Since his break from Maria and their army of newborns, Jasper has had a hard time dealing with feeling the emotions of the humans he'd killed. The monster inside of him is harder to suppress, and it makes him feel incredibly weak. Everyone else seems to have such an easy time of it, although he can sense their turmoil. He still gets very bogged down with the fact that he can't be as free as everyone else in the human world. He's afraid of always being the liability, the reason they can't all do certain things. Alice thought going to the high school would help, but it was like bringing an alcoholic to an alcohol museum.

He's quieter than the rest of his family, mostly because he's still getting used to them. Even though he'd been with them for decades, he try to remain guarded. He was there for Alice, first and foremost. Slowly, but surely, he's beginning to warm up to the Cullens, trusting them more than he thought he'd be capable of doing.
